History of the kingdom
The kingdom of Manuju was ruled by a king called Karaeng Manuju assisted by Salewatangna Manuju (Bali Empona Karaeng Manuju) who was also the Commander of the army of the Kingdom of Manuju. In addition to Salewatang, there were 7 Gallarang people, who menagaturruled their respective territories under the umbrella of the Manuju Kingdom, the seven Gallarrang had the function of installing the chosen King.
These seventh Gallarang were changed into seven toddo ri Manuju. After the kingdom of Manuju entered the kingdom of Gowa during the reign of King Gowa IX Daeng Matanre Karaeng Mangnguntungi Somba Tumapa’risi Kallonna in 1510-1546, the Manuju kingdom was no longer on its own and it changed its name to Bate Manuju, or the former popular kingdom called Bate Salapanga Ri Gowa.
