History of the kingdom

The kingdom of Tidung or also known by the name of the Kingdom of Tarakan (Kalkan / Kalka), was ruled by the Tidung tribe in northern East Kalimantan, which is located on the island of Tarakan. There were two kingdoms in this region, the Kingdom of Tidung, and the Sultanate of Bulungan, based in Tanjung Palas. Based on the pedigree (Genealogy) below, on the east coast of the island of Tarakan, already existed the ancient kingdom of Tidung, circa 1076-1156. Then it moved to the west coast of the island of Tarakan, in the area of Tanjung Batu, approximately in the year 1156-1216.

Rumah Baloy, traditional house of Tidung

This traditional house is the result of the architectural art culture of the Tidung tribe, North Kalimantan. Like other tribes, the Tidung tribe has its own culture and traditional house model. Although this traditional house still uses a number of high poles at the bottom, the shape of this traditional house building looks more modern and fashionable. It is suspected that this traditional house is the result of the development of Dayak architecture from Rumah Panjang (Rumah Lamin) as inhabited by the Dayak Kenyah tribe in East Kalimantan.
