History of the kingdom

Google translation

Boti is a traditional village and the last kingdom on the island of Timor. Located in a remote area of Kie District, Timor Tengah Selatan Regency, the traditional village of Boti is difficult to reach and seems separated from civilization.

The Boti people are descendants of the Atoni Metu tribe, an indigenous tribe of Timor Island.

Similar to the Baduy tribe, the Boti people are also divided into two parts, namely the Inner Boti (Boti Dalam) and the Outer Boti (Boti Luar).
The Boti Dalam community still adhere to their ancestral customary values, such as living in a separate area with a wooden fence, married men are prohibited from cutting their hair, to customary rules that restrict their children’s access to formal schools.

The residents of Boti Dalam live in an area of 3,000 square meters surrounded by wooden fences.

Boti is divided into two, namely Inner Boti and Outer Boti. The total population of Boti Dalam is around 77 families or 319 people, while Boti Luar is around 2,500 people. Only the Boti Dalam Traditional Village inherits and practices the local tradition and native religion called Uis Neno Ma Uis Pah, the god of heaven and earth.

The people of Boti Dalam still adhere to an animism-style belief called Halaika. They believe in two rulers of nature, namely Uis Pah and Uis Neno. Uis Pah is a mother or mother who regulates, supervises and maintains the life of the universe and its contents, including humans. Uis Pah is also known as the God of the Earth.
The residents of Boti Luar are Protestant and Catholic Christians.
