KINGDOM OF SAMPANG

History of Sampang

Sampang is a district in the north eastern part of Madura. In ancient history Sampang is only known from a few inscriptions of the Sangkala Chandra.
Sampang exists since 1478.
In the Age of Majapahit in Sampang a person called Kamituwo lived in Sampang, whose rank was only a patih (governor).
When Majapahit begun to retreat, the ruler in Sampang was Ario Lembu Peteng or known as Bondan Kejawan or Ki Ageng Tarub II or King UB VI, the 14th son of the King of Majapahit Prabu Bhre Kertabhumi or Prabu Brawijaya V or Raden Alit with his concubine named Puteri Champa, named Ratu Dworo Wati or Puteri Wandan Kuning. Lembu Peteng finally went to the Ampel Mosque and died there.
Kamituwo in Sampang was replaced by his oldest son, Ario Menger, whose keraton was in Madekan.
