History of the kingdom of Portibi

The kingdom of Portibi in the land of Batak is a very unique ancient kingdom. Its uniqueness lies in many ways. The uniqueness is for example in the definition of the name of the kingdom; Portibi. Portibi in Batak means world or earth. So if we interpret the Kingdom of Portibi in a leterlex then it means world kingdom. Portibi is the name of an area that became the name of a sub-district in South Tapanuli Regency. Located in the heart of Padang Lawas area. Formerly part of Padang Bolak region.

Unlike the other ancient Batak empires, Portibi Kingdom was an advanced kingdom with dam systems, irrigation and rice fields and gold mines. This kingdom had been equipped with a strong defense system with forts made of hilly stone. unlike elsewhere in the Batak land which was made only of unprocessed mountain rocks.
The kingdom of Portibi was closely related, or at least, an ally and alliance of another Batak empire, namely the Kingdom of Pane, which was very famous in the ancient Chinese and Arab world as the entrance to Sumatra from the East. The port of Portibi was in the vicinity of Barumum and Batang Pane rivers, Aslab – Tapsel now.
